I'm trying to get in College. Jackson State University or Hinds Community College. I Want to attend Jackson State and major in marketing but I'm running into some road blocks. Back in 1986 when I first entered college, I was foolish, running around with a bunch of kids who were stealing, smoking drugs and doing whatever they could to keep me from going to class. I really bought into what they were preaching and wanted to master the lifestyle.
Being cool was something I thought would get me any where I wanted to go. Club, in there! Bars, there! Fun, had it! Money, i'm still waiting on it! The guys that were teaching me this lifestyle didn't tell me that there was no retirement at the end of the road! That the payoff might land you in jail or in a graveyard! They just promised fun!
So I said, "to hell with school! I'm about to master this lifestyle!" So I set about on a one way road to nowhere! Didn't even want to get off, fought my parents to the very end! Hell, my friends couldn't help, they were more lost than I was! My parents were paying for school, so I did just enough to get by. After 3 semesters, they got tired of paying, and I was tired of going!
Didn't know those actions would catch up with me in '07. Hell, I thought I was through with school for good!
Didn't know that I was going to start coaching basketball. Didn't know that basketball would start taking me all over the US. Never thought that I would be meeting people that could change my life. Never once thought that those same people would offer me high paying jobs that would require a COLLEGE DEGREE!!!!!!!!
So now financial aid wants to know why I dropped out of this class, why I got a F in that class, why is my GPA below 2.0. Sure can't tell them that I was trying to be COOL!!!
So that's how the JUCO option comes in. Might have to attend the JUCO to show the good people of Jackson State that I'm worthy of that degree that I want to EARN by attending JSU!!!
I might even tell the financial aid lady to check out the first post on my blog, THE 601 HUSTLE!!!

- I live and work in Jackson, MS. A city where growth is limited, and opportunites are usually so hidden that they go unnoticed by the untrained eye. I've lived long enough to understand the good and bad about my city.
